# Object Types

*For users with instance administrator permission.*

 

Scorecard comes with four default types of  scorecard objects: 

- Two types of containers: results and programs
- Two types of measures: indicators and performance measures

*Note: [Variables](https://support.clearimpact.com/en/2023-variables?hsLang=en) are another type of scorecard object, included with paid subscriptions, but variable properties cannot be changed.*

 

Scorecard objects are also assigned the default colors and icons that appear throughout Scorecard.

You can edit the default scorecard objects to fit your organization’s needs and terminology, and / or add more objects if needed.

 

In addition, each scorecard object can also contain a default set of [notes](https://support.clearimpact.com/en/2023-adding-notes-to-scorecard-objects?hsLang=en). For example, if a program is configured to have three notes by default, those notes will be included each time a new program is created.

*Note: For any scorecard object, no matter what notes are set to appear by default, you can remove, edit, or add notes as needed for that individual object.*

 

To edit or add scorecard object types, and / or configure object notes, click the **Administration** icon and choose **Object Management /**  **Object Types**.

This page lists all **Container Types** and **Measure Types**. Clicking an object’s **Edit** button enables you to change its name, icon color, icon letters (up to two letters), and the plural form of its name. Each type can be deleted, as long as it is not being used in a scorecard or container.

 

There are also options to add a **New Container Type** or **New Measure Type**.

When adding a new measure or container type, assign a name, color, icon letter(s), and plural form. In this example, the new measure type is named KPI.

Any new object type will be available in the relevant **Objects** menu. In this example, KPIs are available in **Objects / Measures**.

To configure the notes that are included by default for a scorecard object, click **Configure Notes**.

The **Available Notes** list contains  default Scorecard notes, as well as any note types added via the [**Notes** page](https://support.clearimpact.com/en/2023-notes?hsLang=en). Clicking a note moves it from one list to the other, in either direction. Note order reflects the order set on the **Notes** page.

In this KPI example, each time a KPI is created, it contains the default note types set in **Object Types**.

For any individual Scorecard object, notes can be edited to either complete or delete them.
