Creating trend charts with the Clear Impact Scorecard custom reporting module

Lesson 2-1 Creating a Trend Chart

Goal - The goal of this lesson is to create a report that has a Trend Chart that shows the data from a Performance Measure.

  1. Click Reports on the main menu
  2. Click on the New Report menu item
  3. On the "Data Sources" tab. Select the checkbox next to PerfMeasures, PerfMeasureValues, and TimePeriods from the Performance Measure and Data categories.
  4. Click on the "Chart" tab. This is where we create charts.
  5. Click on the "Chart Type" drop down box and choose "Trend" for the chart type.
  6. Click on the "Date" drop down box and select "StartDate" under the Time Periods section for our date field.
  7. For the Date Function select "Group (Year)" from the dropdown box.
    1. Optionally you can choose other groupings here but since our example measure is an annual measure we want to pick yearly groupings.
    2. If you are creating a trend chart for a monthly or quarterly measure and select Group (Year) the chart will show you annualized versions of your data. You can select how the values are annualized on the Value function on the next line.
  8. Click on the "Value" dropdown and select the "ActualValue" field under the PerfMeasureValues table
  9. For the Value function select "Average" from the list. This will average any values within the year grouping since our example measure is a percent. For numeric or currency values you will likely want to use the Sum function.
  10. Now let's choose which Measure the report should display data for using a filter, select the Filters tab.
  11. Select ID from the PerfMeasure table for the filter field
  12. Select Equals for the Operator
  13. Enter the ID of the PerfMeasure you want to report on in the Values field.
  14. Click on the "Preview" tab so you can view the report. Let's add a title to this report.
  15. Click on the "Misc" tab.
  16. In the "Title" text box enter your title
  17. Click the "Preview" tab. Now the Report is titled. Let's Save it.
  18. Click on the "Save as" tool bar button, name your report, for example "Lesson 2-1", and enter the category you want the report to be shown under, for example "Training" , click ok. The custom report is saved.

Lesson 2-2 Advanced Trend Chart Report

Goal - The goal of this lesson is to modify the trend chart created in Lesson 2-1 by adding a second data series and smooth out the graph.

  1. Click on the "Chart" tab.
  2. Click on the "Advanced Properties" button.
  3. Click on the "Separator" drop down box and select "Title" from the PerfMeasure table
  4. Click on the "Separator" "Function" drop down box and select "Group" this is how the data will be separated.
  5. Make sure that the legend check box is selected.
  6. Click on the "Smooth" check box.
  7. Now let's add a second measure to the report using a filter, select the Filters tab.
  8. Next to the previous ID Enter a comma followed by another ID of the PerfMeasures you want to report on in the Values field. (i.e. 1234,1235)
  9. Click the "Preview" tab. Now the Trend Chart has been enhanced and separated by Measure and dispalys two lines. Let's update the title for this report.
  10. Click on the "Misc" tab.
  11. In the "Title" text box enter your new title
  12. Click the "Preview" tab. Let's Save it.
  13. Click on the "Save as" tool bar button, name your report, for example "Lesson 2-2", and enter the category you want the report to be shown under, for example "Training", click ok. The custom report is saved.
