Creating Custom Calculations

Note: To understand the foundations of calculated measures, we recommend reading the article on creating calculated data before reading this article.

When creating a calculated measure, there are several types of standard calculations listed, including Sum, Average, Ratio, etc.

When you need to use a calculation not included on this list, choose Custom Equation.

In this example, the measure’s custom equation will use data from four existing disaggregated measures that track shelter pets and adoptions. To add disaggregated measures, click Add Existing Measure.

Choose Disaggregated for Relationship, and use keywords and / or tags to find the measures. In this example, four measures are selected. Click Add.

Because Custom Equation is selected, each of the measure’s disaggregated measures is assigned a letter.

To create the custom equation, click Edit / Data.

In the Custom Equation field, enter the equation using standard algebraic characters and capital letters. Note that all disaggregated measures must be included in the equation.

After saving the data, the graph will be generated.

Choosing Edit / Data again shows each calculated value. If enabled for the measure, you can also add target and / or baseline values.
